Smart TV apps

The AIOStreams app for LG and Samsung TVs, installed from a file, playing through the TV's own player.

The AIOStreams app also comes packaged for LG TVs (webOS) and Samsung TVs (Tizen), with the layout made for the remote that the Android app has on a TV. Neither store carries it, so you install it from a file, the way developers install their own apps. On an Android TV, Google TV or Fire TV, use the Android app instead.

The TV apps are new and have only been tried in LG's and Samsung's TV emulators so far, not on real TVs. Expect rough edges, and please report how they run on yours.

  • Which TVs. They are made for TVs from 2023 or later (webOS 23, Tizen 7). On an older TV, the app says it may not work and offers to try anyway.
  • What plays. The TVs play through their own player, so the TV decides which formats play. Most recent TVs play HEVC and HDR, but not every audio or subtitle format.
  • Speed. Like the Android app, the TV apps draw their screens with the TV's web engine, so moving around can feel slower than in the TV's own apps.

Both packages are on the TV apps release.

LG TVs

Install Developer Mode from the LG Content Store, sign in with an LG account and turn it on. It shows the TV's IP address and a passphrase.

On a computer on the same network, download aiostreams-webos.ipk and install it with webOS Dev Manager: add the TV with its IP address and passphrase, then install the file.

A Developer Mode session lasts a limited time, and the TV removes apps installed this way when it runs out. Extend it in the Developer Mode app before then.

If your TV has the Homebrew Channel, add this repository in its settings instead:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Viren070/AIOStreams/smart-tv-feed/apps.json

The app then installs from the channel and updates there too.

Samsung TVs

A Samsung TV only installs an app signed for that TV, so the release's aiostreams-tizen.wgt is unsigned, and the tool that installs it signs it first.

  • Apps2Samsung does all of it from a computer: turn on developer mode on the TV as it explains, pick Custom WGT File in its list, and choose the .wgt. It signs the app with a certificate from your Samsung account for that TV.
  • Tizen Studio, Samsung's own tool: in its Certificate Manager, create a Samsung certificate profile with your TV's device ID (DUID). Turn on developer mode on the TV (open Apps, type 12345, and enter the computer's IP address), then sign the file with that profile, connect and install:
tizen package -t wgt -s <profile> -- aiostreams-tizen.wgt
sdb connect <tv-ip>
tizen install -n aiostreams-tizen.wgt -t <device-name> # the name from `sdb devices`

Signing in

Add your server, then choose Quick Connect on the sign-in screen and approve the code it shows on the configure page, so nothing needs typing. With a share alias in your profile, the picker address is short enough to type: https://your-instance/jellyfin/u/<alias>. See signing in.

Updates

With the Homebrew Channel, the LG app updates from the channel. Otherwise, install the newer package from the release the same way; your sign-ins and settings stay.
